“Everwild wants to be something very special”.
After an uphill debut and certainly not fully successful, Sea of Thieves has been able to get up again, transforming itself into a truly peculiar and much loved experience in the videogame landscape as demonstrated by the 25 million players announced recently. Also for this reason the curiosity towards the new Rare project is a lot but beyond the two trailers published so far Everwild a big question mark remains.
The bulk of the news regarding the project was largely unedifying between the news of the departure of the creative director, Simon Woodroffe, and the rumors that indicated radical reboots in the development with the feeling that the production had no real direction and could slip even to 2024.
On the other hand, the game remains almost completely an unknown beyond the fact that it should be an innovative and shared experience within a magical world capable of giving us a “unique and unforgettable” experience. What is the situation of the new title of Rare? Here are the words of Matt Booty, head of Xbox Game Studios and Phil Spencer’s right-hand man.
“What is Rare known for? It is known for creating new IPs and creating worlds. When you look from the outside and hear words like reset and restructuring, these are probably more defined and more extreme words than that. that really happens when a video game comes to life.
“They are simply trying to make sure they have something special in their hands. We have shown a taste of the game world, you have seen the artistic style chosen by the team but we want to do the best possible.”
Booty essentially speaks of a project that is simply experiencing the ups and downs of a very normal development, a period made up of many unsuccessful attempts and turnarounds. The head of the Xbox Game Studios knows that fans understandably want news about Everwild and hopes to be able to share them very soon, when Rare feels ready. That said the game was announced two years ago and it is still unknown what it actually is.
As Booty himself admits, Xbox is lagging behind PlayStation in terms of first-party and Xbox Game Pass undoubtedly needs exclusives to perform at its best, and it also needs the contribution of an unknown like Everwild.
