European elections and the cut in exemptions for signatures: Cateno De Luca appeals to Colle
The leader of South Calls North, Cateno De Luca, and the president of the party Laura Castellithey ask the Colle a meeting to stop the cutting of signature exemptions in view of the European Elections. “We officially ask for an immediate meeting with Undersecretary Fazzolari and Meloni's staff to discuss extending the signature exemption to all minor parties so as to facilitate democracy and prevent the Meloni government from favoring only Marco Rizzo's party with an 'ad personam' rule to the detriment of all the other parties, creating a very serious precedent for a country that defines itself as democratic”, they write in a note. “Just as Rizzo was received yesterday at Palazzo Chigi, we ask for a meeting by 11.00 to discuss this proposal. If this were not to happen and an 'ad personam' rule was approved in today's meeting at 11.00, we would be faced with a very serious act of 'government gun'”, De Luca and Castelli denounce again.
Furthermore, the note continues, “the thing that scares us further is the silence from the media and opposition parties: Democratic Party, M5S, Action, Italia Viva, +Europa, Alleanza Verdi Sinistra. We make a public appeal to the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella as guarantor of democracy so that such an act is not carried out on the day of filing the lists for the European elections, facilitating a person who currently does not have the requirements to participate in the elections and who he acts knowing that by today he will have them. If there must be democracy, then let it be for everyone.”

Laura Castelli personally presented the lists to the Court of Appeal of Rome. “We are worried about the Government's clear intention – says Castelli – to approve a law decree to reduce the number of signatures needed while the games for the presentation of the lists are now over”. 'South calls North' has parliamentarians elected in the single-member elections and should therefore be exempt from collecting signatures.
