The European Union (EU) criticized Iran’s attacks against Israel that took place this Tuesday (1st). In an official statement, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said the attack “constitutes a serious threat to regional security.” In another statement, Borrell said on social media that “an immediate ceasefire across the region is necessary.”
“Once again, a dangerous cycle of attacks and retaliations risks fueling an uncontrollable regional escalation that is in no one’s interests. The EU remains fully committed to reducing tensions and contributing to de-escalation, in order to avoid a dangerous regional conflict”, highlighted the European Union representative in the statement.
The crisis in the Middle East was also commented on by Borrell in posts on social media. At X, the EU’s foreign policy chief called for the bombing to end. “The dangerous cycle of attacks and retaliations risks spiraling out of control. An immediate ceasefire across the region is necessary. The EU remains fully committed to contributing to avoiding a regional war,” he posted.
Earlier, Iran launched ballistic missiles at Israel. The action would be in retaliation for recent attacks against Hezbollah.
Israeli military authorities issued a statement in which they advised the local population to seek shelter and remain in safe areas until further warnings are issued.
