The European driving license is one standardized driving license which allows European citizens to drive vehicles within theEuropean Union (EU) and in European Economic Area (EEA). The Italian driving license follows the standardized format of the European driving license. This means that the driving license issued in Italy follows the rules and models defined by the European Driving License Directive, ensuring uniformity with driving licenses issued in other member countries of the European Union (EU) and in the European Economic Area (EEA). ).

Each EU member country issues driving licenses in accordance with the rules set out in the European Driving License Directive.
