Publisher Future Friends Games and developer Helder Pinto have announced the postponement of Europe a few days after its debut on PC. Previously scheduled for April 16, 2024, the open-world adventure will arrive a few months later. A new precise date has not been provided, but there is talk of “probably by summer”. Console versions are still planned, which will be released at a later date.
The announcement was accompanied by a statement explaining the reasons why the difficult decision was made to postpone the release of Europa and an update video by the author Helder Pinto, which you can find in the player below.
“It was a very difficult decision, made after many discussions between me and the rest of the team,” said Pinto. “Europa started as a side project that I created on my own, and in the years since it has grown more than I could have ever dreamed, even though we still work evenings and weekends, in conjunction with our day jobs. I'm very proud of what we've done together, and that's why I can't stand the thought of releasing the game before it's in the condition we want. Unfortunately, it looks like it's going to take a little longer than expected.”
What is Europa?
Europe presents itself as a relaxing adventure focused on exploration, in which we will have to solve mysteries in the ruins of a fallen civilization and discover the story of the last human being alive. Everything is characterized by a style heavily inspired by the works of Studio Ghibli.
The game takes place on the Jupiter moon of the same name, where a true paradise has been created through terraforming, which we will explore in the role of the android Zee, capable of running, surfing on the surface of bodies of water and gliding thanks to a jetpack.
As explained in our review of Europe, in its simplicity it has proven to be a very interesting title and certainly one to keep an eye on in the coming months, given that it could prove to be one of the best independent titles of this year.
