The European Parliament has given the final green light – with 297 votes in favour, 190 against and 37 abstentions – to the agreement reached with the Council on the Euro 7 regulation (approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles), i.e. the new EU standards to reduce emissions from cars, vans, buses, trucks and trailers. Vehicles will have to comply with standards for longer, ensuring lower emission levels throughout their life cycle.
For the car same limits as Euro 6
For cars and vans, the current Euro 6 testing conditions and exhaust emission limits will be maintained. For buses and trucks, stricter limits will be applied for exhaust emissions measured in the laboratory and in real driving conditions, while maintaining the current Euro VI test conditions.
For the first time, EU rules will include brake particle (PM10) emission limits for cars and vans and minimum performance requirements for battery life in electric and hybrid cars.
Green passport
For each vehicle, a passport will be made available which will contain information on its environmental performance at the time of registration (such as pollutant emission limits, CO2 emissions, fuel consumption fuel and electricity, electric autonomy, battery life). Vehicle users will also have access to updated information on fuel consumption, battery health, pollutant emissions and other relevant information generated by on-board systems and monitors.
The Council must now formally approve the agreement before the regulation can come into force.
