Biaudet says he wants to find a place where he can have as much influence as possible.
Rkp's Congressman Eva Biaudet plans to run for next summer's European Parliament elections.
“It is important that the vote for our liberal and human rights-based policy is ensured in the EU parliamentary elections in the future as well. It is a particular interest for me, and I have experience in that area. That's why I think it's important to run,” Biaudet tells HS.
Biaudet, 62, is a long-time member of parliament of the Rkp, who worked for eight years in Vienna as a special representative of the OSCE's anti-trafficking activities between his parliamentary terms, and then as an equality commissioner in Finland. He was a Member of Parliament from 1991 to 2006 and since 2015. He has served as Minister of Basic Services Paavo Lipponen (sd) in the second government.
Biaudet was Rkp's presidential candidate in 2012. He has not previously been a candidate in EU elections.
Biaut has not particularly hidden the fact that he is not comfortable in a situation where Rkp is in the same government as basic Finns.
“It's no secret to anyone that maybe in this sitting government, my values and world of thought did not have great success. That's why I think it's important to find a place where you can have as much influence as possible.”
However, according to Biaudet, it is not that he wants to leave domestic politics.
“Sometimes it may feel that way, but the MEP is not out of domestic politics. The themes are very much the same, and the teachers also affect the atmosphere and the discussion.”
According to Biaudet, it is also possible to influence Finnish politics, to be “loud and visible” during the election campaign.
Rkp's the only MEP Nils Torvalds will no longer run for office. Party chairman Anna-Maja Henriksson is currently considering his own candidacy, which would open the race for chairmanship in the Rkp.
According to Biaudet, it is natural that the EU elections are of interest to Rkp's prominent politicians, because the party has always emphasized internationality.
“Finland's affairs cannot be dealt with simply by closing the borders and looking inward. Finland and Europe have something to give to the rest of the world.”
The EU parliamentary elections are on Sunday, June 9. 15 MEPs from Finland are elected to the 720-member parliament.
