New historic Sunday for the City of Running. The Ethiopian Yomif Kejelcha has achieved a new world record male after stopping the Half Marathon time Valencia Trinidad Alfonso Zurich in 57:30 after an epic race in the rain in which he dominated from the first moment.
The great event of the 21 kilometers of the capital of Turia, which already had the women’s world record achieved by Letesenbet Gidey in 2021 (1:02:52), thus recovers the title it held in 2020 and which Lisbon took from her in 2021 by just one second (Jacob Kiplimo, 57:31), surpassing him by one second and now occupying the top of the podium of the fastest 21,097 meters in both men and women. After Kejelcha, the second place was Daniel Mateiko, who had a time of 58:17, and the third, Isaia Kipkoech, with 58:21.
In women, the winner was Agnes Ngetich, who crossed the finish line with a great time of 1:03:04, making it the second best time in history and the best of the year. Second place was occupied by Fotyen Tesfay, with 1:03:21, and third, Lilian Kasait, with 1:03:32.
There has also been joy among the Spanish, because Kaoutar Boulaid has broken the Spanish women’s record with a time of 1:08:47, almost a minute below the previous record that Laura Luengo achieved in this same race (1:09:41) a year ago. Precisely, Luengo was the second Spaniard to cross the finish line with 1:08:50, also improving her previous time. In third place came the debutant Irene Sánchez-Escribano with 1:09:10.
In the men’s category, Thierry Ndikumwenayo was the first national with a time of 59:42, followed by Ibrahim Chakir, with 1:01:40, second, and Jorge Blanco, with 1:01:45.
