The Environmental Commission of the Megalopolis (CAMe) reported that coPhase I of the atmospheric environmental contingency due to ozone in the Metropolitan Zone of the Valley of Mexico continues for Thursday, May 16.
This measure is maintained due to the worrying concentrations of ozone recorded, especially at the monitoring station of Tlalnepantlawhich reached a maximum of 178 ppb at 3:00 p.m.
During the afternoon, adverse weather conditions persisted, with atmospheric stability, weak wind, low cloud cover, high solar radiation and temperatures above 30 °C.
These factors led to the formation and accumulation of ozone, maintaining concentrations above the safety threshold established at 154 ppb.
Weather forecasts for tomorrow indicate a similar outlook to today, suggesting that Air quality will remain at Poor to Very Poor levels.
Given this situation, the CAMe has decided to maintain Phase I of the atmospheric environmental contingency due to ozone in the ZMVM, along with all the corresponding measures established in the prevention and response programs for environmental contingencies.
These measures have the main objective of protecting the health of the population and reducing exposure to contaminated air, as well as mitigating the emission of pollutants.
