The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has signed a memorandum of understanding with Siemens Industries and Audi Volkswagen Middle East, which aims to advance the electric vehicle sector by providing technical solutions and digitizing services that support the sector by establishing a long-term relationship through which the two companies work as partners to contribute to the promotion of Sustainable development goals and digitization for the UAE. The memorandum was signed by Sherif Al Olama, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure for Energy and Petroleum Affairs, Helmut Struve, CEO of Siemens Middle East, and Carsten Bender, CEO of Audi Middle East, in the presence of Eng. Federal Infrastructure, Sheikh Nasser Al Qasimi, Assistant Undersecretary for the Infrastructure and Transport Regulatory Sector, and a number of officials. The scholars said: “The use of electric vehicles has become a reality, and that cooperation with the private sector and leading international companies is accelerating the pace to develop technology and software related to the work of electric vehicles and the development of the infrastructure it needs, especially that the UAE is a pioneer in the use of this type of vehicles, so we decided To hold such ambitious partnerships that support the UAE’s efforts and initiatives to adopt the use of electric vehicles, and to benefit from the multiple benefits that can be achieved from adopting new mobility solutions.” He added that the memorandum of understanding also includes the commitment of all parties to support the implementation of the second phase of the approved plan for the project to install a number of electric chargers for the assets of federal roads and government buildings whose implementation is supervised by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, noting that the memorandum also aims to establish an “Audi hub” within Federal road breaks, which include the service center for charging solutions or charging devices for electric vehicles, in accordance with the laws and regulations in force in the country, and the development of practical solutions to the challenges associated with the expansion of their use, where the three parties cooperate in the exchange of information, knowledge and experiences, reflecting on issues of mutual benefit, and launching Initiatives supporting the electric vehicle system.
He explained that a number of initiatives will be implemented to contribute to raising the level of awareness of government employees and the Emirati community about electric vehicles through an awareness campaign through the media for users of federal roads, as well as holding technical workshops and public brainstorming sessions to provide solutions and raise awareness levels among employees and community members about the importance of accreditation and its role in sustainable development and support of the state’s objectives in the issue of climate change and the preservation of natural resources.
He stressed that such partnerships contribute to crystallizing the idea of transforming towards the use of electric vehicles, and support the UAE’s direction in formulating projects and initiatives aimed at achieving the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, which the country is one of the first countries to ratify, and contribute to opening broad prospects for sustainable development, and building more Global partnerships that support the UAE’s global leadership in various fields, especially those related to innovation, technology and sustainability related to the mobility sector. Al Olama stated that the UAE has a transport sector, facilities and infrastructure that is among the best and most developed at the global level, as the road, metro and transportation network extends to urban areas and is integrated to support growth in various sectors of the economy, trade and tourism, pointing out that the transport sector in the UAE is receiving great attention. Wise leadership for his role in sustainable development, and his close connection with vital sectors on which the state depends greatly for the next fifty years.
Electric vehicle chargers
It is noteworthy that the memorandum of joint cooperation comes as a continuation of the first phase of the “Infrastructure Rehabilitation with Electric Vehicle Chargers” project, which is implemented in partnership between the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure and Siemens Industries, which aims to prepare the infrastructure for the use of electric vehicles, during which the specifications of high quality chargers were approved And the launch of an integrated electronic platform that brings together government agencies and the private sector, in addition to the adoption of an electronic application with the aim of organizing the process and facilitating the customers.
