End to the empanadilla crisis: Buitoni wafers return to supermarkets

Nestlé has confirmed the return of the iconic Buitoni (formerly La Cocinera) wafers to Spanish supermarkets, just for the Christmas season. Thus, the empanadilla crisis comes to an end, as it has been popularly coined to refer to the period of time in recent months in which these had disappeared from the exhibitors. Starting this week, consumers will be able to find this product in the usual points of sale, responding to its high demand during this time of year. According to the company, the reintroduction of this item has been possible thanks to obtaining superior quality flour, which meets the required standards.

The factory in Penilla de Cayón, Cantabria, has resumed production of the famous wafers after ensuring the supply of flour with the necessary characteristics. According to André Moura, Culinary Director of Nestlé Spain, this return responds to the brand’s “commitment to offering high-quality products.”

In turn, Moura highlights that obtaining the specific flour used in their manufacture “has involved a meticulous process, which is carried out in order to maintain the characteristics and flavor that have always characterized them.”

The first batches have already begun to be distributed in supermarkets and the availability of the merchandise will be progressively expanded over the coming weeks. The company hopes to satisfy the request of consumers looking for this key element for their holiday recipes.

Traditional Buitoni wafers, known for their thin, flaky and easy-to-handle dough, return in their original format. This preparation is ideal for preparing both sweet and savory dumplings. Adding to the empanadilla fever that is taking over establishments, the brand will also continue to offer its new line of Argentine-style dough, which is differentiated by being thicker and with greater prominence in texture and flavor.
