“I think that the culé must understand that the situation is very difficult, especially on an economic level, to compete with the top competitors, both Madrid in Spain and in Europe. We have an economic situation that has nothing to do with 25 years back, when the coach came and said ‘I want this one and this one’. Now it is not like that. We are not in the same conditions as other clubs that have very advantageous fair play situations or a much better economic situation than ours. Barcelona fans have to understand it and I have spoken about it with the president and with Deco. We are going to adjust to that. These words did not please Joan Laporta at all, and the journalist from RAC1Jordi Basté, already announced that Xavi would not continue leading the project next season, as has finally ended up happening.

This dismissal will cost FC Barcelona 20 million euros, 15 million for the coach plus another 5 million for his staff.

Xavi’s career at FC Barcelona

Xavi Hernández has spent two and a half seasons at the club. The Terrassa coach took charge of the team in 2021 after the dismissal of Ronald Koeman and that year they were eliminated in the group stage of the Champions League and in the Europa League, and finished LaLiga in second place.
