Statistics from the Ministry of Health and Community Protection show that the health sector has more than 125,000 medical and clinical cadres working in government and private hospitals at the state level, including 25,414 human doctors, 6,576 dentists, and 11,827 pharmacists, according to 2019 statistics.
The health sector also includes 56,142 nursing staff, and 25,928 technicians, during the same year, in addition to medical and nursing cadres who work in medical places affiliated with non-health authorities.
The UAE ranks among the best countries in the world in providing infrastructure in the health sector, in addition to its global leadership in providing health care services. There are 151 hospitals in the country, including 51 government hospitals and 100 private hospitals, according to the results of the 2019 statistics.
There are 16,872 medical beds, including 8,284 beds in government hospitals and 8,588 beds in private hospitals, in addition to 4,696 medical care centers and clinics, including 149 governmental centers and clinics and 4,547 centers and clinics in the private health sector, according to its data for the same year.
The UAE is distinguished by providing comprehensive health care to citizens and residents, and the percentage of health facilities available in which is a basic set of necessary medicines that meet the purpose at an affordable cost always, reaches 100%.
Today, Monday, health and government agencies, whether federal or local, are organizing a package of events and activities to celebrate the Emirates Medical Day, in appreciation of the efforts of medical staff and health care workers in promoting community health and quality of life.
Celebrations and events are held under the slogan “The Emirates appreciates you”, which indicates that the UAE appreciates all medical cadres of all categories who have proven efficiency in work and sacrifice in the service of their leadership and country in various aspects of the health and medical sector.
The adoption of the Ministerial Council for Development, with the support of the Ministry of Community Development, on the ninth of May of each year as a special day to celebrate the “Emirates Medical Day”, to introduce humanitarian giving and the noble efforts provided by medical and nursing cadres and health service providers and to highlight the great efforts made by the authorities and establishments different health.
Government health authorities celebrate with their employees the Emirates Medical Day, thank them and present symbolic gifts to the workers. The events and activities organized by the Emirates Medical Association, in cooperation and coordination with many health authorities, include a campaign on social media, about the event and its components and the role of medical cadres in serving the country and congratulating them by dedicating a day to celebrate them. In the capital, Abu Dhabi, the slogan of celebrating the Emirates Medical Day and greeting health workers will be placed on screens on the Arabian Gulf Road, and in Dubai on the facade of Wafi Mall and the World Trade Center.
At all Emirates Petroleum stations, a video dedicated to the celebration of the event will be posted, with “brochures” and brochures distributed. And the Emirates Medical Association announced sending a text message in cooperation with the integrated communication company “du”, to congratulate its members of healthcare professionals, noting that it had organized in many commercial centers in the country, an event for the public, for each person to write a letter of thanks and appreciation to one or more of the cadres.
