The king of rock already has his biopic by the hand of Baz Luhrmann. Director of Moulin Rouge Y The Great Gatsby returns almost ten years later with Elvis, a review of the trajectory and music of the icon that is forgettable and expendable, even with the presence of a correct Tom Hanks in the role of manager Tom Parker. On the other hand, director Scott Derrickson and actor Ethan Hawke join forces again for a horror story with black phone. This adaptation of a short story by Joe Hill, son of Stephen King, is both adolescent and adult, gloomy and hopeful.
One of the great surprises of the summer billboard is full of grace, by Roberto Bueso. The film, starring Carmen Machi, is at the same time a profoundly Spanish story with clear roots in American cinema. Worth seeing with the family. To finish, two French productions: Promises in Paris Y nameless war. The first is a film about the ups and downs of politics in which the ugly digital photography takes the shine off the story. However, the form is never the most important thing in a harsh and critical work that, finally, leaves a hopeful residue. The second production is a documentary about the war in Algeria directed by Bertrand Tavernier and which premieres in Spain, on Filmin, 30 years later. The tear is the great protagonist of a film that proves the incalculable value of cinema in the face of historical reparation.
The films have been reviewed by Carlos Boyero, Elsa Fernández-Santos and Javier Ocaña, and the full review can be read by clicking on the photo.
