Elon Musk has participated in a call between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky when the latter congratulated the Republican candidate for his victory in the US elections. During the 25-minute call, Trump told Zelensky that he would support Ukraine, without giving details, while Musk said he would continue supporting the country with its Starlink satellites.
News of the call comes as Trump moves closer to choosing his top advisers and Cabinet members. Trump has said he would offer Tesla CEO, Muskthe richest man in the world, a role in his administration to promote government efficiency.
Zelensky was one of the first leaders to congratulate Trumpwhich has been critical of US military and financial support for Ukraine in its war with Russia. In a message published on social networks shortly after the final results were known, the Ukrainian leader showed his confidence in maintaining Washington’s “bipartisan support” for his country.
The billionaire founder of SpaceX was one of the Trump campaign’s most prominent supporters and his presence during an official call underlines his close ties to the next US president. Another senior Ukrainian source told AFP that Musk was present with Trump during the call. Musk “He wasn’t on the line, Trump gave him the phone. “They were together somewhere,” the source said.
Zelensky “thanked (Musk) for the Starlinks, they spoke briefly,” the source said, referring to the satellite internet devices used by Ukrainian troops. “But the main conversation was, of course, with Trump,” the source added, while saying that he and Zelensky “didn’t really discuss anything substantial, it was just a greeting conversation.” Zelensky previously said he shared an “excellent” call with Trump, in which they agreed to “maintain close dialogue and advance our cooperation.”
