The four children of Elizabeth II were this Monday (12) of vigil in front of the queen’s coffin at St Giles Cathedral, Scotland, where a wake was held. King Charles III, along with Princess Anne and Princes Andrew and Edward, stood silently around the coffin for about ten minutes.
This is the first time that a woman, Anne, has fulfilled this role in the British royal family. When Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, mother of Elizabeth II, died in 2002, the vigil was held by her male grandchildren – Charles, Andrew, Edward and David Armstrong-Jones, Princess Margaret’s only child.
On Tuesday, at 16:00 GMT (13:00 GMT), the coffin will be carried in procession from the cathedral and will be airlifted to London, accompanied by Princess Anne.
The aircraft is due to land around 18:00 GMT (15:00 GMT) at Northolt Air Force Base, to then be taken to Buckingham Palace, the sovereign’s official residence, where it will be in a hall so that members of the royal family and employees can honor her.
