Electronic Arts revealed that it stands for lay off “a small number of employees” from two mobile gaming teams. The two studios in question were working on EA Sports MLB Tap Sports and F1 Mobile Racing: the two games will no longer be supported.
In a statement provided to GamesIndustry.biz, Electronic Arts said that: “This is a difficult decisionwhich we know has an impact on the passionate communities that have played and enjoyed these games, and we don't take that lightly.”
“We extend our thanks and appreciation to MLB, the MLBPA, OneTeam Partners and the MLBPAA for their close and valuable partnership,” the company added.
The end for EA F1 and MLB games?
F1 Mobile Racing is developed by Codemasters, with Eden Games as development partner. EA has made it clear that it is still interested in developing F1 games and that this closure has no impact on Codemasters' F1 console and PC franchise.
“We are deeply committed to our F1 franchise through our ongoing partnership with Formula One Management,” an EA spokesperson said.
MLB Tap Sports is EA's only MLB game, but it's unclear whether this marks the end of the partnership. EA still has Super Mega Baseball, an arcade title that doesn't have an MLB license but has deals with individual professional baseball players.
