The Electrical Union of Cuba (UNE), dependent on the Ministry of Energy and Mines, reported this Tuesday that it has achieved restore electrical service connection after the general blackout that has affected the island since last Friday.
The UNE has indicated in a statement that The electrical system at the national level has become “synchronized” at around 2:44 p.m. (local time). The agency had indicated shortly before that more than 95 percent of the clients in Pinar del Río, Artemisa, Havana, Mayabeque, Las Tunas and Holguín had service.
The four-day blackout has caused protests by the population and throwing pots and pans in some cities, to which the president of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canelwarned on Sunday that his Government will not allow “vandalism.”
The power outages have coincided with the passage of hurricane ‘Oscar’which made landfall in the eastern part of the island and left at least six dead. The meteorological phenomenon has caused significant flooding and forced the evacuation of part of the population in the east of the island.
