Two people died this Sunday in armed incidents at voting centers in the Mexican state of Puebla (center), a local government security source informed AFP.
The shooting began when the police went to the scene after being alerted and began pursuing the criminals who had fled in a vehicle, the report added.
Another person lost his life near an electoral post in the town of Coyomeapan, in an event also linked to the theft of electoral documents, added the state government source.
The victim is apparently a member of the Green Party. The authorities are investigating reports that the incident occurred due to a confrontation between rival political movements.
This is Israel Delgado, 35 years old and aspiring trustee (comptroller) of the town of Cuitzeo, who was attacked by gunfire on Saturday night near his home.
Since last September, when the electoral process began, some 26 candidates have been murdered. The NGO Data Cívica reports thirty crimes.
Almost 100 million voters are called to vote in this Sunday’s elections in Mexico. With some 20,000 positions in dispute, they are the largest elections in the country’s history.
