Elderly, Vittimberga (Inps): “With Spazio Blu 300 apartments with healthcare for a dignified life”

“For INPS it is a very important initiative because it breaks down the barriers between administrations, the relationship with CDP is the signal of an administration open to innovation, together with other public and private entities. In this regard, the significant result is very important: 300 apartments intended for the elderly which will allow them to age actively, in an environment that allows them to combine independence, health care, a series of complementary services to live a dignified life outside from that hateful institutionalization which over the years has caused a problem for our 14 million elderly people”. This was declared by Valeria Vittimberga, general director of INPS, on the sidelines of the presentation of the “Spazio Blu” project for senior housing, at the CDP headquarters in Rome. “The INPS assets are very large to replicate similar initiatives that can bring benefits to the community and to families and elderly people who are an important piece of our social structure”.

“The enabling law 33 is taking care of the world of the elderly to give them a full life without material obstacles for the future, with aid for the frailties of their age. The precursor INPS, with the home care premium model, a fund with a mutual formula for seriously or very seriously disabled people who can access a family financial subsidy to avoid having to go to retirement homes, without being uprooted from their families”. He continued the general director of INPS. “There will be a two-year experimentation taken over by INPS, also with interesting interoperability tasks, with tasks of the local health authorities. From the outcome of this experiment it will be understood how to make it structural because an elderly person managed at home costs less to the national health service. The idea that this housing model can expand is tomorrow’s challenge. It is very important not to hide behind bureaucracy, it is the dawn of a new smart way of approaching the citizen. The elderly have always been seen as a subject of assistance and that they are not active subjects, however today with the silver economy, with a different activism, things have changed. There is a desire to live one’s life for the elderly, without being ghettoized and institutionalized. The family model is fundamental for the elderly.”
