As we know PS5 Pro should ensure superior performance and/or visual quality for games already released in stores that will receive specific patches to take advantage of the increased GPU power and the console’s PSSR. However, even games that will not receive direct interventions from developers could still receive improvements “passively” thanks to the function Game Boost. In this sense, the tech enthusiasts of Digital Foundry have taken as an example Elden Ringwhich could finally run at a fixed 60 fps on consoles, at least in Performance mode.
As explained by Richard Leadbetter in the latest episode of DF Direct Weekly, according to his tests with a PC configuration with an AMD Radeon RX 6800, theoretically more or less equivalent to PS5 Pro, FromSoftware’s title could reach the 60 fps threshold in Quality mode (which on PS5 has a native 4K resolution and an unlocked framerate that varies between 30 and 45 fps) but not in a stable manner, perhaps also due to CPU limitations.
Different speech for the Performance modewhere dynamic resolution comes into play (between 1512p and 4K on PS5), which according to Leadbetter should guarantee a stable 60 fps, whereas at the moment on the standard console the game fluctuates between 45 and 60 fps.
Leadbetter’s words
“Would it be locked at 60fps on Quality mode? That would be great if that were possible, but maybe not. The frame rate mode, though, will still be there. You will still be able to use it on PS5 Pro. And the introduction of dynamic resolution scaling should make a difference. It should deliver 60fps,” Leadbetter said.
Of course, we are talking about hypotheses that can only be verified when PS5 Pro hits stores on November 7 and all the necessary tests can be carried out. Moreover, it is not a given that every game will receive more or less significant improvements through the Game Boost function, so take everything with a pinch of salt. Staying on the subject, Digital Foundry also talked about how Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will be better on PS5 Pro.
