First modification:
Luis Arce completed his first year as president of Bolivia. A year that began with a call for unity after the political upheaval that the South American country experienced in 2019, which led to an interim government to power and the resignation of former President Evo Morales due to pressure from the military. A period that has also been marked by the Covid-19 pandemic and the effects that it has brought with it: social, health and economic crisis.
This first year of government in Bolivia is marred by an indefinite national strike. Among the organizers are the regional civic committees, which played a prominent role in the 2019 demonstrations, which led to the departure of former President Evo Morales, and other sectors such as the so-called “unions” and transporters, but also ordinary citizens who expressed their dissatisfaction with Law 1386, called the National Strategy Against the Legitimization of Illicit Profits and the Financing of Terrorism.
In this edition of El Debate we take stock of the first year of Luis Arce’s administration as president of Bolivia and the multiple crises that the South American country has faced, for this we talk with our guests:
– Fernanda San Martín Carrasco, lawyer and former deputy for the opposition Democratic Unity party,
– José Hugo Moldiz, writer, researcher and former minister of the Government of Bolivia during the administration of former President Evo Morales.
