Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi instructed the government in December to begin moving to the new administrative capital. This is stated on November 3 in a message on website heads of the country.
The decision was made during the meeting Al-Sisi met with the Prime Minister and Minister of Housing and Utilities and Urban Communities of Egypt.
“The President instructed the government to begin the actual move to the government area of the New Administrative Capital in December,” it says.
The headquarters and buildings in the government area of the administrative capital under construction near Cairo are ready. The move will be carried out within six months.
The new administrative capital, located 45 km from Cairo, should relieve the burden of Greater Cairo, which is already home to more than 20 million people.
The new one is designed to accommodate 6.5 million people and accommodate all ministries, parliament, government agencies, as well as residential buildings and all services.
It is assumed that the “new Cairo” will have its own air harbor, designed to receive international flights. This will help relieve the existing airport, which is considered the second largest passenger traffic in Africa.
The new capital of Egypt will be the second large-scale infrastructure project during the Fattah el-Sisi presidency, following the opening of the Suez Canal back-up in 2015. It is planned to spend more than $ 45 billion on its construction. The area of the new city is 714 sq. M. km.
The Egyptian Armed Forces Engineering Directorate announced a competition in October to propose names, logos and slogans for the New Administrative Capital of Egypt, which will run until November 18, notes “Gazeta.RU“.
