Work is continuing to extinguish a large fire that broke out yesterday, Friday, in a metal technology company in the Lichterfelde district of Berlin. A spokesman for the fire department said on Saturday: “Firefighting work is still ongoing,” explaining that fires repeatedly break out in the rubble of the building, adding that emergency forces will have to demolish parts of the building in order to better reach the sources of the fire.
The spokesman said that about 50 emergency services personnel were working at the fire site as of this morning, adding that firefighting work was likely to continue throughout the entire day. The spokesman indicated that residents are required to continue to keep their windows closed, as the fumes resulting from the fire may continue to rise.
The spokesman said that the German Red Cross and the German Life Saving Society used their technology yesterday, Friday, to measure air pollutants resulting from the fire. Since Friday evening, teams from the Technical Relief Agency have been working to prevent contaminated firewater and firefighting foam from entering the sewage network or the Taltouf Canal near the fire site.
The fire department spokesman said that the teams have succeeded in preventing this from happening so far, noting that one of the waste disposal companies has established large tanks to collect polluted firefighting water.
The major fire broke out in the company yesterday morning, Friday. According to the fire department, a technical room on the first floor of one of the company’s factory buildings burned completely.
According to the data, all individuals in the building were able to move to safe places. It is no longer possible to enter the building while the fire is extinguished.
A huge cloud of smoke formed over western Berlin.
According to the data, the fire occurred in an electroplating factory, which produces car parts, among other things.
