Eduardo Barrachina, president of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in London, died the Domigo shows in his fight against the disease of the same elegance, courage and consideration for his friends who characterized his life. It was a tireless driver of commercial relations between the two countries he loved, the United Kingdom and Spain, a brilliant columnist, reputed clubman and passionate traveler. If we measure that foam that remains of a life for the brand that leaves in friends, Eduardo died in Pleamar. London is mourning, not only the Spanish community, which worshiped him, but also the British, especially his companions of the Travellers club.
Eduardo was born on July 23, 1978 in Alcoy. He spent his youth in Barcelona, where he finished the law race. In 2003 he traveled to New Delhi to work at the Fox & Mandal office. India was his third love after Spain and England, he traveled extensively with the subcontinent, where he leaves numerous friends.
He settled as a lawyer in London, developing a brilliant career in the Linklaters office. Over time he fell in love with this city, not forgetting his dear Spain. When the hard days of the financial crisis arrived, prolonged in the Spanish case for the independence challenge in 2017, he stepped forward to defend the reputation of our country, both in collaboration with the embassy and directly in the British media and in his management in the Chamber of Commerce, which he presided since 2018.
Anticipating the consequences of Brexit, redoubled the activity of the camera and managed to overcome the complex transition, to the point that, four years later, Spain has gained market share, and its bulky surplus in the United Kingdom is a pillar of its commercial balance. We owe him a camera that is, with permission from New York, the most powerful in Spain in the world, connected to the highest level with the British government and companies through an impressive public agenda. It is necessary to cite among its initiatives that of the Financial Forum or the investment barometer, so successful that they will be reproduced in other cameras of Spain in the world, or the Women Who Inspire series, which supports the Spanish professionals resident in London in their different fields.
Eduardo was a great defender of diversity and inclusion, making the Chamber of Commerce exemplary in that regard. In collaboration with the Embassy, he organized the first LGTBI+ event at that diplomatic headquarters, Proud of Our Pride, which already goes for its third edition and has become a reference for the Spanish community of this capital, and also for British politicians and businessmen. On March 6, squeezing his forces, he attended the celebration at the Embassy of International Women’s Day, which helped organize, receiving the applause of the more than two hundred attendees. It was his last public appearance.
Man of gathering and memorable speeches, Eduardo stood out as an excellent speaker and essayist, a regular in the pages of the main Spanish newspapers with his elegant and cultured pen. It was a reference in Hispanic-British gatherings, where it stood out for its deep understanding of the realities of the two countries. He combined his Hispanic patriotism with a sincere love for the British and their traditions, expressing in his person that friendship between the two countries that has led us to share almost a million residents.
Eduardo, you leave when the cherry trees and camellias flourish in all the squares of Belgravia, when spring appears in the corners of your beloved St James with the promise of a new Season, which you will not see anymore. Your silhouette disappears stairs above the Travellers, and with it an important part of us. That the poets of the countries that you love, audit with their “stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone” and especially Lorca are told by goodbye: “And you above, on top, green and cold / forget and forget the vain world / delicate Eduardo, my friend.”
José Pascual Marco, Ambassador of Spain in the United Kingdom
