The Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF) announced this Thursday the hiring of the Argentine Sebastian Beccacece Beccacece, 43, will be the new national team coach after the departure of Spaniard Félix Sánchez following the elimination in the quarter-finals of the Copa América. Beccacece, 43, will have his first experience as national team coach after having managed the Spanish side Elche for the last two seasons.

The Argentine will take command of the Tri with a view to the resumption of the qualifying rounds for the 2026 World Cup, where the Ecuadorian team occupies fifth place with 8 points in six games, after having started the process with -3 due to a sanction from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) following the case Byron Castillo.
In September, the Ecuadorian team will visit Brazil and then host Peru in Quito, on the seventh and eighth dates, respectively, of the World Cup qualifiers.
Before spending the last two seasons at Elche, Beccacece began his coaching career at the University of Chile, then moved to Defensa y Justicia, from where he subsequently moved to Independiente and Racing de Avellaneda.
He then returned to Defensa y Justicia, where he won the 2021 Recopa Sudamericana, and the following year he began his first experience in European football, where he made the commitment to try and unsuccessfully return Elche to Spain’s first division.
The Argentine coach is already familiar with Ecuadorian football, as he was part of the coaching staff of his compatriot Jorge Sampaoli when he was in charge of Emelec in 2010.
