The Spanish brand Ebro has reactivated the old Nissan factory in the Free Zone this Saturday with the production of its first vehicle, the S700 SUV, in an event in which it has been supported by the Government, the Generalitat of Catalonia and the leadership of Chery, which has ratified its industrial alliance with Ebro.
Almost three years after the manufacture of the last Nissan vehicle, which was produced on December 16, 2021, Ebro, which in April announced its industrial alliance with the Chinese Chery, has taken over from the Japanese company to launch new vehicle manufacturing in the Free Zone facilities.
The event, held at the plant, now called Ebro Factory, brought together the president of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, the Minister of Industry, Jordi Hereu; the president of the Standing Committee of the Chinese People’s Congress, Zhao Leji; the president of Chery Automobile, Tongyue Yin; to the president of Chery International, Guibin Zhang, and to the main executives of Ebro, among other authorities.
Yin has been convinced that Chery will be “a driver” so that a “historical brand” like Ebro can be “again a brand very well received by the Spanish market” and has ratified the industrial alliance with his partner, underlining that They intend to “create thousands of jobs with Ebro.”
Hereu says that both are an example “for many other projects” with China
The Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, has assured that the alliance between Ebro and Chery is an example “for many other projects” between Spanish and Chinese companies.
He said this this Saturday at the official start of production at the Ebro plant in the Free Zone of Barcelona, where he added that he would like “to see many other ‘ebros’ and ‘cherys’ in many other parts of Spain” .
Also participating were the president of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa; the Chinese ambassador to Spain, Yao Jing; the president of Chery, Tongyue Yin, and the president of EV Motors-Ebro, Rafael Ruiz.
