Naples earthquake today 14 April 2024: Campi Flegrei, magnitude and epicenter
Three strong earthquakes were felt today, April 14, in Naples. According to the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, the first earthquake of magnitude 3.7 was registered at 9.44 this morning and was located in the Campi Flegrei area, at a depth of 2 kilometers.
The second, of magnitude 3.1, is occurred two minutes later, at 9.46, and had the same epicenter, near the Solfatara, but was recorded at a depth of 3 km. The third, of magnitude 3.0, was reported almost a quarter of an hour later, at 10.01, and had the same epicenter, but was recorded at a depth of 2 km.
All were felt distinctly by the population, from the Campi Flegrei to the center of the capital of Campania, to the Chiaia district and the hospital area.
Another earthquake of magnitude 2.4 occurred yesterday around 5.14pm with its epicenter in the Gulf of Pozzuoli, in the Campi Flegrei area. The previous night, at around 4.34am, another earthquake of magnitude 2.2 was recorded in the same area. The area is affected by a seismic swarm attributed to the bradyseism of the Campi Flegrei which has lasted for over 48 hours with more than fifty earthquakes recorded by the INGV.
The civil protection is carrying out all the necessary checks to verify any damage to things or people, which has not been reported so far.
