The Dubai Sports Council and the Basketball Federation discussed ways to cooperate with the International Basketball Federation in the field of developing the game, enhancing its position in the UAE and the region, and supporting the efforts of the International Basketball Federation to develop the game at the global level.
This came during the visit of the delegation of the International Basketball Federation to the headquarters of the Dubai Sports Council and a meeting with Saeed Hareb, Secretary-General of the Council, and Major General M. Ismail Al Gergawi, President of the Arab and Emirati Basketball Federations.
The Secretary General of the Dubai Sports Council welcomed the delegation of the International Basketball Federation, which included Anju Weish, the Financial Director of the International Basketball Federation, Patrick Marilaff, Executive Director of the Federation, and Hagop Khajerian, Executive Director of the Federation in Asia, in the presence of Nasser Aman Al Rahma, Assistant Secretary-General of the Council, and Salem Al Mutawa, Secretary-General For the Basketball Association, Farid Al Qaiwani, a member of the Federation’s Board of Directors, stressed the keenness of the Council and the UAE Basketball Federation to cooperate with the International Federation to develop this wonderful Olympic sport, especially as it is one of the important sports in the country and is given great attention by clubs, and the Federation is making great efforts to develop the game in the country, where Our national team won the gold medal in the Gulf Games recently held in Kuwait.
Hareb also stressed that the Dubai Sports Council has many fruitful and cooperative relations with various national and international sports federations and Olympic committees, and that the country hosts many tournaments, camps and international events annually, and the Council is pleased to enhance cooperation with the International Basketball Federation in various fields.
The delegation of the International Basketball Federation thanked the Dubai Sports Council and the Basketball Association for their efforts in the field of supporting and developing sports in general and basketball in particular, and stressed that the experience of the UAE in spreading and developing sports in the country is appreciated and praised by the international community, as well as the desire of the International Federation to enhance cooperation between the two parties and raise the level of cooperation to advanced stages.
Hareb took the visiting delegation on a tour of the headquarters of the Dubai Sports Council, which included a visit to the headquarters of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Sports Creativity, the council’s departments, and the innovation lab that hosts workshops, forums and brainstorming sessions for the council.
