Finally, the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai organized the first legal forum to discuss legislation and laws related to artificial intelligence in the transport and communications sector, in a move aimed at setting the required frameworks for developing laws in light of the tremendous and rapid technological developments in the UAE and the world, to become an integral part of plans and strategies. To support and enhance the role of the transportation sector in the Emirate of Dubai, which has a prominent position on the map of the most developed global cities.

Executive Director of the Department of Legal Affairs in the Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector, Shehab Bushhab, said that the UAE’s interest in artificial intelligence technologies and the fourth industrial revolution based on innovation began early, which made it a pioneering country in adopting these strategies, and prompted the rest of the countries in the region to catch up with it in this. track.

Bushahab added that the UAE was one of the first countries to launch an independent strategy for artificial intelligence in October 2017, so that this initiative will be the new stage beyond the smart government strategy on which services, sectors, and future infrastructure in the country will depend, in line with the UAE Centennial 2071.

The first legal forum dealt with five main axes, prepared by RTA legal advisors. And reviewing the presence of artificial intelligence in the authority’s legislation, and discussing its impact on the transportation sector, including automated cars, and the default responsibility of artificial intelligence systems.

The forum touched on the legal personality of the robot, the aspects regulating its legal existence as an entity that can act on its own, and the legal implications that ensue, including its financial liability, in addition to the legal implications of using artificial intelligence technology. He touched on the legal challenges facing artificial intelligence applications in smart contracts, and the rules that govern them.

It also dealt with criminal liability resulting from harming artificial intelligence systems and related crimes, including hacking into its information systems and damaging its data.
