The Dubai Health Authority has identified 5 habits that must be followed during the month of Ramadan to ensure a healthy fasting, free of health complications, for different age groups.
The five habits included the need to exercise an hour before breakfast to lose weight and burn fat, unless there is a health objection, and to avoid exercising under direct sunlight in a hot place.
The authority continued, “The second habit is that the fasting person should get enough continuous sleep during the night, for a period of no less than 4 hours before waking up for Suhoor, and avoiding excessive eating immediately before bedtime, as this causes sleep disturbance and increases acid reflux into the esophagus.”
She added, “Pregnant and breastfeeding women should see a doctor to discuss the extent of fasting and get important advice, and eat large amounts of sugars that may raise blood sugar quickly, which later leads to a breakdown in energy.”
The fourth habit is to drink a lot of fluids, eat nuts and fish, as they contain vitamin E, which regenerates skin cells, and avoid eating fatty foods and soft drinks, as they contribute to the emergence of grains.
The fifth habit included children, as the authority stressed the need to gradually accustom the child to fasting, such as abstaining from food and drink at the beginning or end of the day, and avoiding asking the child to fast the entire day of Ramadan, especially if he is less than 9 years old.
