Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, in cooperation with Dubai Municipality, organized a number of virtual awareness lectures in both Arabic and English to raise students’ awareness about the importance of preserving our precious natural resources, and to introduce them to the eight nature reserves in the Emirate of Dubai and their essential role in achieving environmental balance. This coincided with the National Environment Day, which falls on February 4 of each year, which was held this year under the slogan “Action for Climate”.
The authority launched an internal electronic competition and awareness campaign on its official pages on social networking sites and its internal channels to urge the public and its employees to adopt a responsible and sustainable lifestyle, which contributes to making positive change and supports national efforts to achieve sustainable environmental development.
His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, said: “We are following in the footsteps of the founding fathers and in accordance with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him, to promote sustainability, innovation and transformation towards a sustainable green economy and achieve Highest levels of production efficiency. We are committed to increasing the percentage of clean and renewable energy to achieve the objectives of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the carbon neutrality strategy 2050 (zero carbon emissions) for the Emirate of Dubai to provide 100% of the production capacity of energy from clean energy sources by 2050. One of our most prominent projects to achieve this goal is the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Complex Maktoum Solar Energy in Dubai is the largest solar energy complex in one location in the world according to the independent producer system.
