The violence once again tarnished a Colombian soccer game this Wednesday, when fans of the Deportivo Cali they invaded the field of the Doce de Octubre stadium, in Tuluá, in the match that their team played against Cortuluá.
In the 82nd minute, when the Greens were losing 2-0, the fans entered the field of play, attacked the coach Mayer Candelo and the player Theophilus Gutierrez and they stole the clothes of other soccer players, including Fabri Castro.
Many of the professional soccer clubs rejected the acts of violence in Tuluá and expressed solidarity with their colleagues from Deportivo Cali. However, the lack of solidarity of Fernando Velasco, the DT of Cortuluá, who lived what happened on the field.
Fernando Velasco showed little empathy towards his colleague on the bench, Mayer Candelo, and he also slowed down what happened on the pitch.
“I am going to do as in international soccer, when there is a fight the camera goes elsewhere,” Velasco declared at the beginning of the press conference, while, at that very moment, the Deportivo Cali squad was sheltered in the police dressing room.
“I think it’s not the time for those situations, we’re very happy. The truth is, a team that came from last place, and coming and facing Cali in the way we faced it… I’m left with those positive feelings. It is an important step that we took in what we want, which is to save ourselves from relegation. We go day by day, step by step. And I think this step was quite important,” Velasco added.
What about Velasco’s empathy with his colleague Mayer and the Cali players?

Velasco was the target of criticism on social networks for his lack of empathy with Candelo and the Deportivo Cali players.
That is why Colombian soccer is not going anywhere, because not even among themselves do they shake hands.
This response is unfortunate after what happened yesterday. https://t.co/H5piTeWkyW

The mea culpa of Fernando Velasco
As the hours passed, and given the strong reaction against him, Velasco came out to clarify what had happened, in an interview with Carlos Antonio Vélez, on Planeta Fútbol.
“Yesterday for not referring to the subject I ended up being indolent. I’m very sorry about what happened to Mayer, you don’t wish that on anyone. If anyone has been in solidarity with his colleagues, it has been me, ”said Velasco.
