DS locks down its plug-in hybrid offering. And it does so in the true sense of the word: in fact, the French car manufacturer has presented the new one DS 7 VAUBAN, armored plug-in hybrid SUV model based on DS 7 E-Tense 4×4 300 and available in a very limited number of examples. This transformation into an armored vehicle takes place at Hérimoncourtless than one hundred kilometers from the Mulhouse factory, where all the DS 7s are produced.
Armoring in a workmanlike manner
Aramids, a group of lightweight materials particularly resistant to impacts and heat, HPPE fibres, reinforced steel and safety glass are just some of the elements that effectively make the car “armoured”: we are talking about a VPAM protection level 4, therefore also resistant to bullets. It is clear that a process like this involves an increase in the overall mass of DS 7, despite this it is not an exaggerated increase: the French brand speaks of a additional weight of 164 kgwhich translates into minimal impact on the car’s handling.
Maneuverability and performance
Speaking of maneuverability: both the active suspension system controlled by a DS ACTIVE SCAN SUSPENSION camera and the turning radius of 10.45 m have been confirmed as a whole, while in terms of performance the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h requires around 6 ,1 seconds, two tenths of a second more compared to the standard model. Internally, however, the differences with the original car translate into the Vauban embossing and the addition of some special controls. To drive the new DS 7 VAUBAN you just need to have a normal B driving licence. The price? It starts from 165,000 euros. DS has announced that the first 7 VAUBAN has been produced, and that homologation is scheduled for June, before sales open.
