Irene Schouten will compete against Italy’s Francesca Lollobrigida this afternoon at the Olympic Games in the 5000 meters in the sixth and final stage. The 29-year-old top favorite has the same opponent on Thursday (13.00 Dutch time) as during her golden ride in the 3000 meters last Saturday. Then Lollobrigida finished third.
Sanne in ‘t Hof, the only other Dutch participant in the 5000 meters, will take on Russian Natalia Voronina in the third stage, just before the mop. For In ‘t Hof it is her first appearance at the Games. The Russian is the world record holder in the 5000 meters with a time of 6.39.02 minutes.
Isabelle Weidemann from Canada, the silver medalist in the 3000 meters, takes action in the penultimate stage. She takes on the Norwegian Ragne Wiklund. The Czech Martina Sablikova, the gold winner in the 5000 meters at the Vancouver 2010 and Sochi 2014 Games, will compete in the fourth stage against the Japanese Misaki Oshigiri.
The defending champion in the 5000 meters, Esmee Visser, is not among them in Beijing.
