Changing of the guard
The fourth round of the 2024 season saw a single, great protagonist: Toprak Razgatlioglu. From the conquest of pole position to the victories in Race-1, Superpole Race and Race-2. An authentic hat-trick that the #54 of BMW had already come close to this year in Montmelò, and which he hadn’t achieved in his career since the Mandalika Round in 2022. Now it’s time to celebrate for the Turk, and not just for the results achieved in Emilia -Romagna, but also for the return at the top of the world championship standings. Also thanks to these performances, in fact, the new driver of the Bavarian company is at the top of the ranking with 179 points, with an advantage of 21 points over Nicolò Bulega. The latter, moreover, finds himself ahead of his teammate Alvaro Bautista by only three points, with the reigning world champion having paid a high price above all for the mistake he made in the Superpole Race: a crash that condemned him to the 17th place. All the other pursuers remain in double figures (excluding Alex Lowes at 124), including the six-time world champion Jonathan Rea, only 14th and with a feeling that is still missing with his Yamaha. However, the opportunity to recover could come at the next round at Donington, scheduled for 12 to 14 July. In the meantime the Ducati maintains the lead in the Constructors’ classification, still followed by BMW at 23 points.
