Dragon Age: Inquisition Was it a commercial flop? Absolutely not, in fact it seems that Bioware’s 2014 RPG has “massively” exceeded Electronic Arts’ internal projections at the time, according to Mark Darrah in a post on X.
The former executive producer of the series said that Inquisition has so far sold over 12 million copies all over the world and at the moment it is the Most purchased game in the series overall, in short, we are far from subdued numbers.
Mike Darrah’s words
In reality, this information shouldn’t be that surprising, considering that the other Dragon Age: Inquisition was also crowned Game of the Year 2014. But then why has this information only emerged now? Evidently after ten years memories fade and interpretations can become distorted, so much so that Darrah’s message comes in response to a debate that arose on social media after a user accused Inquisition of being a “commercial flop”.
“I’m not sure where the statement ‘Dragon Age Inquisition was a commercial flop’ came from. It’s now sold over 12 million copies,” Darrah said. “It’s massively exceeded EA’s internal projections… Oh yeah, it was also the GOTY of 2014.”
It will be interesting to see if Dragon Age: The Veilguard can repeat this success, despite a segment of the series’ fans who are not happy with the fact that the game moves even further away from the dark tones and less action-oriented gameplay of the series’ progenitor Dragon Age: Origins. The game is scheduled to launch on October 31, 2024 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Just a few days ago, Bioware and EA released five trailers dedicated to as many settings of the title.
