A proposed law in Bolivia has generated protests by including restrictions on doctors continuing to work after age 65. Dozens of doctors and hospital workers participated this Tuesday in a 48-hour strike against the modification to the current Pension Law.
Franz Apaza, Deputy Minister of Pensions and Financial Services, has indicated that doctors will not be forced to retire but will have to pass a health test to verify that they are still fit for their jobs. In Bolivia, the voluntary retirement age is 58 years for men and 55 years for women, although many workers continue working after this limit to improve the retirement pension they receive.
