Milan – Inter beat Milan 2-1 in the derby and became Italian champions for the twentieth time in their history. Acerbi took care of sewing the tricolor on Simone Inzaghi's team in the first half and Thuram at the start of the second half, against an opponent fielded with an unusual 3-5-2 without leading strikers. The Nerazzurri pass in the 18th minute. Dimarco takes a corner from the left, Pavard acts as a tower towards the far post finding Acerbi alone in the centre who takes advantage of his rivals' sleep and hits Maignan with his head a few steps from the goal. Seven minutes later, Lautaro devours the 2-0 when he shoots from a few steps away, nullifying an assist from the left by Dimarco.
The hosts saw each other for the first time in the 29th minute when Reijnders launched Musah on the counterattack, who in turn fed Leao who moved the ball to his left, skipping over Acerbi and went for a shot, but Sommer was ready to save with a dive. In the 38th minute it was Lautaro and his teammates who came close to doubling their lead when he opened the plate too much from a good position and sent it wide, wasting an assist from Barella's left wing. A minute later, however, Sommer performed a miracle by neutralizing a flying right-footed shot from Calabria that arrived after a cross from the right by Musah.
On the reversal in front, an incorrect disengagement by Tomori delivers the ball to Mkhitaryan who finishes with the left foot, finding Maignan ready to save with open hands. At the start of the second half, after just four minutes, Inter scored the second goal. Thuram protects the ball from Tomori, cuts in from the left and fires low with his right foot to the near post, finding Maignan unprepared. Two minutes later, Hernandez responds on the opposite side with a poisonous left-footed shot from the edge which is saved by Sommer in a dive. At a moment in which the guests seem to control the match without major difficulties, Pioli's team closes the gap with ten minutes to go. Newly substitute Chukwueze delivers a ball to the far post where Leao arrives, heading the ball to Gabbia who heads it finding Sommer ready to save, but the Swiss goalkeeper can do nothing about Tomori's tap-in into an empty net.
The guests resist the final assault of their opponents and secure the three points which are worth +17 in the standings and the second star's championship. In full recovery, with nervousness now skyrocketing, Dumfries, Hernandez and Calabria were sent off but at the final whistle the party can start for the new Italian champions who thus celebrate the deserved tricolour.
The joy of Ernesto Pellegrini
“Inter's scudetto is a starred scudetto. A particular scudetto because it includes the two stars. As we know, the starred ones have a particular charm.” Word of Ernesto Pellegrini, Nerazzurri president from 1984 to 1995 who, LaPresse, recounts the title won by Simone Inzaghi's team. A triumph that recalls Inter's success in the 1988/89 season, that of the tricolor won by the team coached by Giovanni Trapattoni. The greatest analogy, according to Pellegrini, is found “in the incredible ride” accomplished by Lautaro Martinez and companions. A “record” adventure. But it is not just the championship journey that unites scudetto number 13 in Nerazzurri history with title number 20. Pellegrini's memories also focus on two players in particular.
Two different but winning stories. The first is that of Marcus Thuram. It is the arrival at the Nerazzurri of the son of art in which Pellegrini “sees” the analogy with Ramon Diaz. The Argentine bomber who arrived surprisingly after the purchase of Rabah Madjer, 'Allah's heel' who failed his medical, fell through and has formed, with Aldo Serena, a goal pairing that recalls Thu-La. Thuram arrived in Milan last summer, somewhat of a mystery object, and found himself in the starting lineup after Lukaku's departure. The Frenchman, number 9 like Diaz, was supposed to be a second option and he proved to be fundamental. On Madjer, Pellegrini opens a parenthesis: “He was considered one of the number one, we don't know if it had been good what we would have done that year. In my opinion it's a lot. No I'm not saying more but certainly not less” because Madjer was “a champion, an extraordinary player”. The second analogy with which Pellegrini “agrees” is that between Nicola Berti and Nicolò Barella. Two midfielders with Nerazzurri in their veins capable of incredible and decisive goals. Looking to the future, Pellegrini has no doubts, it is Simone Inzaghi's: “Inzaghi will remain at Inter for a long time. He is a good boy, serious, respectable. A good coach who knows how to communicate well with the press and with the players”. In short, a real coronation because for Pellegrini, the coach from Piacenza, “he has similarities with Trap, he resembles him”.
