Rumors regarding the possible announcement of a new one are spreading like wildfire DOOMlinked to the registration of a brand name which seems to clearly reference the series. But let’s go in order.
The Verge journalist, Tom Warren, published a post on X in which he makes a direct reference to DOOM. In the post we can read “Microsoft will be banking on some new game announcements lifting the DOOM around Xbox.” We leave it in the original language so as not to lose the reference.
As you can see, Warren only used capital letters for the word “doom”, as canon for the logo of the series created by id Software. Furthermore, the phrase speaks of imminent announcements to calm the controversy around Xbox, after the sudden closure of some studios, and outline its future. In this case the reference should be to the June showcase, now very close.
In the meantime, the aforementioned registration of a has popped up new brand in the USA operated by Zenimax, probably connected to the DOOM series. For what reason? The brand in question is “IDKFA” (in all capital letters) and, apart from the intended use, which is for multimedia products, including video games, it is also a very famous cheat in the series which allows you to obtain all the keys and the entire arsenal with maximum ammunition.
Speculations
Obviously we are in the field of mere speculation, in this case however based on decidedly concrete bases. It’s impossible to say whether it’s a new game or something else, but it’s worth considering DOOM Eternalthe previous chapter in the series, was launched in 2020 and therefore enough time has passed to have a new game for 2025 or 2026, considering the current average triple-A development cycles of 5-7 years, net of the fact that ID has at least two internal teams and that, therefore, work on the game could have started before the publication of Eternal itself.
Furthermore, in the past some really reliable information has emerged on the development of a new DOOM, so much so that what the title could be is also known: DOOM Year Zero. It is also known that it will have at least one DLC.
Be that as it may, nothing is confirmed for now. Perhaps we will know more on June 9th at 7:00 pm, when Microsoft will hold its summer Xbox Games Showcase, which we at Multiplayer.it will follow and comment on live.
