The coldest months of the year arrive and many people begin to empty closets to resort to blankets, duvets and pajamas very thick to spend winter nights.
But if you are one of those who also chooses to sleep with socksyou should think about changing your mind. In a new study, the bedding store chain MattressNextDay has revealed how unhealthy this common habit is.
In the study, collected by the Mirrorsocks worn between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. were analyzed with swabs. The participants they wore the same socks while carrying out their daily activities, including footwear and exercise.
The swabs were then sent to a laboratory, where the levels of bacteria found on the socks were compared to those on the doormats and television controls.
The results were especially surprising for the 18% of adults who regularly sleep in socks. Research has shown that socks worn all day are not only slightly dirty, they are 20 times dirtier than a toilet seat.
As part of its research, MattressNextDay surveyed 1,000 people and found that less than a third (30%) of those who sleep in socks said they They would put on a new pair before going to bed.
This means that many people carry harmful bacteria into their beds unknowingly, which could jeopardize their health and sleep quality, the research team said.
