Biological evidence covers two of the five investigated for the crime of Samuel Luiz. And especially corners one of them. Agents of the National Police have confirmed in this Thursday’s session that traces of Diego Montaña’s DNA were found on the victim’s face. But the evidence also points to Alejandro Freire, alias ‘Llumba’. In his case, his biological profile was found in the glass of a bottle in the place where the attack that ended with the death of Samuel Luiz began in the early hours of July 3, 2021 in La Coruña.
The fact that DNA remains of these two defendants have been found does not unequivocally point to them as perpetrators of the crime; Nor, of course, does it exonerate the other three young people of whom there was no trace of a genetic profile. But, of course, as the agents have stated to the members of the jury in this Thursday’s session – day number 14 -, DNA from Diego Montaña has appeared on the body of Samuel Luiz It undoubtedly implies that there was “great friction” between the alleged perpetrator and the victim.
Diego Montaña was the one who started the attack. At the doors of the Andén pub, on the promenade near Riazor, Diego Montaña thought that Samuel Luiz and a friend were recording him with their mobile phone, when in reality what they were doing was a video call with a friend who had no way out that night . After threatening to kill him with homophobic insults, he pounced on him and began to hit him: This is what the cameras recorded, several witnesses – and some of the other defendants – declared it, and now, the police have confirmed in the trial the reports prepared that accredited the appearance of the aforementioned genetic profile. The victim, who was unable to defend himself, did not know any of his alleged attackers.
Llumba quickly joined the lynching of Samuel Luiz. During these more than three weeks of trial, there have been many witnesses who reported that it was he who threw the victim to the ground by grabbing his neck from behind. What the agents defined as ‘mataleón’, a strangulation technique common in violent robberies. But Llumba is also compromised by DNA evidence. In his case, not found in the victim’s body, but in the glass of a bottle. Some witnesses had reported that during the lynching they heard glass breaking precisely in that place.
Added to all these indications against Diego Montaña and Llumba are the accusations against them after the crime of Kaio Amaral, another of those investigated. On July 5, 2021, two days after the events, and when no one had yet been arrested, Kaio Amaral showed up at the police station because his name was floating around on social networks as the perpetrator of the attack. And in that witness statement, In addition to shaking off his responsibility, he aimed directly at Diego Montaña and Llumba.
This was recalled in this Thursday’s session by the Police sub-inspector who at that time was in charge of taking his statement, still as a witness. Kaio Amaral has since completely disassociated himself from the attack: “He gave us a story in which he seems to be just watching.” He also told them that he had only intervened to “separate” his friends, and lied to the agents about the clothes he was wearing on the day of the crime, probably to try to make his identification more difficult.
After the crime, the alleged perpetrators of the attack met in a city park, according to what the accusations interpret in order to find an alibi given the seriousness of what happened. However, that quickly blew up and everyone went on a ‘every man for himself’ race, pointing fingers at each other for the crime. Kaio Amaral did it before the Police, targeting Diego Montaña and Llumba, but it could also be verified in some Instagram messages from the latter, revealed by ABC, in which Llumba assures a friend that Kaio Amaral had kicked the victim when he was on the ground.
