TsNIIMash: the cost of the system “Milky Way” is estimated at two billion dollars
The creation of the Russian automated warning system about dangerous situations in the near-Earth space “Milky Way” will cost two billion dollars. The corresponding costs are disclosed in the materials of the Central Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering (TsNIIMash) of Roscosmos at the Army-2022 forum. This is reported TASS.
“The total cost of creating the system is estimated at two billion dollars,” the materials say.
In August, the general director of TsNIIMash, Sergey Koblov, said that the Milky Way integrated monitoring system being created in Russia would be more efficient than the current automated system for the prevention of dangerous situations (ASPOS) in space.
In January, Grigory Stupak, general designer of ASPOS OKP, announced that the promising Milky Way system would be able to track space objects ranging in size from five centimeters and located at an altitude of up to 2,500 kilometers above the Earth’s surface.
