Dirk van Duijvenbode was just unable to create a sensation for his own audience. Lost in a thrilling final Aubergenius in Amsterdam the final of the World Series of Darts Finals of Gerwyn Price. It all came down to the all-deciding 21st leg: 11-10.
Van Duijvenbode and the Dutch public: it turned out to be a happy marriage this year. Earlier this year, Aubergenius already the final of the Dutch Darts Masters. Then he lost a few hundred meters away, in the Ziggo Dome, to the Belgian Dimitri Van den Bergh. In the fourth leg, however, Van Duijvenbode and fans had to swallow a disappointment. Price managed to break the Dutchman. However, to the relief of the audience, that break was also brushed away in the eighth leg: 4-4.
The tension was to die for and both darters continuously managed to keep their own legs. In the fourteenth leg, Van Duijvenbode smelled his chance, but from 146 he got The Iceman managed to thwart a break chance. However, the Dutch enthusiasm was always fed by Van Duijvenbode, who struck again and again at the right moments.
However, the same could also be said of Price. At 8-7, the Welshman threw out 121 via bullseye while Van Duijvenbode was ready at 82 to make it 9-7. Then the Welshman hurt the Dutchman even more with a break, but again Van Duijvenbode straightened his back. Like it was nothing, he made it 9-9 by immediately breaking Price back and then also keeping his own leg. However, Price made it 10-10, after which The Iceman the most cold-blooded appeared in the all-deciding leg: 11-10. Price won the tournament for the second time.
Van Duijvenbode reached the final by beating Haupai Puha (6-5), Gary Anderson (6-3), Ryan Joyce (10-9) and Clayton (11-8). Price defeated Matt Campbell (6-5), Joe Cullen (10-8) and James Wade (11-9). Previously, Michael van Gerwen (four times), James Wade, Clayton and Price won the tournament.
