The Department of Development, Housing, Territorial Planning and Environment of the Government of Cantabria has invested urgently 454,000 euros for slope stabilization on the access road to Sonabia, due to the “serious” rockfalls that affected about 200 meters of road, on October 6, and that They forced the closure of traffic to “guarantee road safety”. This is what Councilor Roberto Media expressed this Monday during his visit to the area to check the start of the work that will allow the repair of damage to a road that has “a lot of traffic”, and minimize the risk of new landslides.
Accompanied by the mayor of Castro Urdiales, Susana Herrán, and the councilor of Liendo, Juan Alberto Rozas, Media has highlighted the “agility and diligence” of his department when investing, given that the action was ratified as an emergency by the regional Executive on last October 18, after the declaration of the City Council, and it is already in execution, with a period of two months. In this sense, the counselor has highlighted the Government’s support for all town councils with investments that “they cannot afford” and he has expressed confidence that the work can be completed before the end of the year, as he noted in a statement.
For her part, the mayor has valued the work and economic effort of the Government to carry out comprehensive action in an “urgent” manner. “I appreciate the agile response and attention of the Ministry,” he expressed.
SOLUTION ADOPTED
The work will consist, mainly, of the removal of rock materials from the slopecausing the controlled fall of the loosest blocks in the massif itself, which have detached and have cut off the municipal road.
Subsequently, a mesh will be placed to protect the road from falling rocks, for a length of about 320 meters, and the replacement of the deteriorated pavement of the road and its functional elements, such as bollards.
