President Andrés Manuel López Obrador highlighted this Friday that, under his administration, the Mexican peso has appreciated 8 percentcontrasting with the devaluation experienced in previous governments during the last 50 years.
This achievement, the president said in his morning press conference at the National Palace, is a reflection of the financial stability achieved during his management.
In the midst of a context of “financial instability” worldwide, López Obrador stressed the importance of informing citizens about this data, which he considers significant and which, according to him, has not received adequate attention.
“It’s not bragging, but a lot of things were done, in some cases like never before. Now that there is this financial instability, we must take into account that since 1970, more than 50 years, all governments have devalued the peso, except ours.” said the man from Tabasco.
The President explained that from the six-year term of Luis Echeverría to that of Enrique Peña Nieto, all of his predecessors have seen a devaluation of the Mexican peso.
However, under his administration, the currency has not only not been devalued, but has appreciated by 8 percent.
This achievement, according to the head of the Executiveis proof of the effectiveness of the economic policies implemented by your government.
Lopez Obrador He acknowledged that highlighting the appreciation of the peso might seem like a form of boasting, but he felt it was necessary to do so due to the lack of media coverage on this topic.
“If we don’t report on this, it’s even sad, because it’s like cheering us on, but we have to emphasize it because otherwise, nothing is said,” he said.
The president also attributed the lack of recognition of this achievement to certain sectors of society that, according to him, are “clouded” by political and ideological issues, and fail to see the country’s economic progress.
“People do know it, the majority know it very well, but there are sectors that are very uninformed. They become clouded by the political and ideological issues,” he criticized.
Furthermore, López Obrador noted that this lack of clarity about his government’s economic achievements has led to misinterpretations of the results of recent elections and unfounded criticism.
“That’s why they are also surprised when there is a result like the previous Sunday, they say ‘what happened?’ Because this is not in your conversation, nor anything that has to do with the fact that the economy is good, that there are jobs, that salaries are good, that people are happy. No, that is not in the conversation. conversation,” he lamented.
