Amazon bowed to pressure from the government of the United Arab Emirates, where homosexuality is prohibited, and this week restricted products and search results related to LGBT themes and people on its website in the country.

According to the New York Times, more than 150 keywords are no longer showing results in the search, such as “lgbtq” and “pride”, and products on the topic were also blocked, such as the book “My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness”, by Nagata Kabi.

In a statement, Amazon said it remains “committed to diversity, equity and inclusion, and we believe that the rights of LGBTQ+ people must be protected,” but pointed out that “with Amazon stores around the world, we must also comply with laws and regulations.” and local regulations of the countries where we operate”.
