The Deputy Prime Minister of Slovakia, Tomas Taraba, said this Wednesday (15) that he is confident that his country’s Prime Minister, Robert Fico, will “survive” the shooting attack he suffered earlier during an official engagement. .
In an interview with the British network BBCTaraba said that Fico – who was shot five times by a 71-year-old man while greeting a group of people on the street – is no longer at risk of death.
“I was very shocked. Fortunately, as far as I know, the operation went well, and I think he will survive in the end. He is not in a situation where his life is at risk at this time,” Taraba said.
Slovak Defense Minister Robert Kaliniak said before Tabara’s remarks that Fico’s condition was “extremely serious.”
Kaliniak said the surgery was “very complicated” and that he prays “that the prime minister’s good constitution and modern medicine will do their job.”
Fico suffered “multiple trauma” after being hit by five bullets and is still “fighting for his life”, he added.
“There is no doubt that it was an attack with political connotations”, highlighted Kaliniak, placing the attack in the context of “an inability to accept the will of part of society”.
The person who fired shots at Fico was arrested by police at the scene of the attack, according to the Slovak press. (With EFE Agency)
