At first glance, the new DeLorean will not help but remember the ‘old’ DMC-12. Thanks to a little one preview of the back of the new version, which will be presented during the summer of 2022, some interesting tributes have already been discovered to the car that became famous due to the corporate vicissitudes and for the film Back to the Future.
The new car, according to the image published by DeLorean Motor Company, is gray and black (like its distant relative), has a rear window design clearly inspired by the DMC-12 and shows a rear diffuser that seems to ‘dig’ deep, somewhat reminiscent of the configuration of the past. Recall that the new version of the car will be fully electric.
Although the new electric vehicle will be showcased to the public for the first time on Pebble Beach’s Concept Lawn on August 21, 2022, the long-awaited DeLorean revelation will actually arrive three days earlier. “The excitement is growing around our iconic sports car, so we decided to reveal the next generation prototype three days ahead of schedule.“Said Troy Beetz, CMO of DeLorean Motor Company. This in the cover image is obviously a first glimpse, in the form of a digital image of which the rear lights are particularly noticeable. The car should have doors in a gull-wing configuration and a power exceeding 1300 horsepower, with a particularly high autonomy (about a thousand kilometers), thanks to the modular EVX platform developed by Williams Advanced Engineering and Italdesign. The production volumes will presumably be very low, and the cost will instead be very high.
DeLorean’s past, present and future will unfold throughout Monterey Car Week through a series of activations and events that will showcase the new vehicle alongside the old one. The name of the car, still unknown, will also be revealed. There will be further tributes, that’s for sure. Appointment therefore at August 18 to see the complete car for the first time.
