A train without passengers derailed on Saturday afternoon in the tunnel that connects the Madrid Chamartín and Madrid Puerta de Atocha stations, as reported by Renfe. The incident has forced the suspension of the circulation of High Speed trains that connect the capital with the East of Spain in both directions.
Adif has reported through its X account that it is “an incident during a maneuver” and that all High Speed trains between the Chamartín and Jardín Botánico stations are suspended.
Renfe has not provided any further information in this regard and the causes of the accident are unknown. The time it will take for the network to function normally has also not been revealed.
The Adif information services have announced that the trains that make the journey to Chamartín will temporarily end at the Madrid Puerta de Atocha station.
The incident in Chamartín occurred just one day after a breakdown at the Adif facilities at Atocha station caused delays for three hours on three Cercanías lines.
Shortly before 7:00 a.m. on Friday, a breakdown on the tracks forced the usual route of several trains to be delayed, interrupted or modified.
